“Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.” Robert A. Heinlein
Everyone who knew our Granchub loved him in a way that is hard to put into words. He was my husband’s best friend, one of my greatest cheerleaders, and a friend with an ice cold Pepsi and Hershey bar who knew no strangers. There isn’t a day that goes by that Tom and I don’t mention him and smile, so when I heard of this amazing Mom in Raleigh who takes men’s dress shirts and turns them into beautiful dresses I knew we needed a Granchub. I wanted to surprise Tom with this so I took some pictures of Lila in one of (the many) Granchub shirts Tom has saved.
Check out Jessica’s website! She is not only an extremely talented dress maker but became a new friend in the whole process!
And here is Lila Byrd loving her new dress! The funny thing is Lila does so many things to remind us of Granchub on a daily basis, but the first day she wore this dress made of his well worn dress shirt she made us laugh all day thinking of him. Notice the smile in the pictures below-that came from the promise of sausage for brunch. She even had a runny nose that we all came to know and love with our Granchub. I tried to thank Jessica for this dress and tell her just how much I loved it. It was so special for me to be able to surprise Tom with this and the thoughts of seeing Lila in this dress gave me such joy it was hard to explain. When Tom carried Lila through the park the morning that she first wore the dress it was like he was able to hug his best friend once again. Thank you Jessica for helping me give my husband a gift of memories.
